Dr. Nassaulaan 9 in 2009Villa Aschwing dates from 1877 and was built in an eclectic style. The villa is in the shape of a cross, has a striking basement floor, a wide balcony and a mezzanine on top. Villa Aschwing was commissioned by Mister Bolman, a government inspector in the field of primary education. The house was subsequently sold to a notary, Mister Venema, and after World War II to an advocate attorney, Lord Alting von Geuseau. From the 1950s onward it served as home to the Dutch civil defense organization, Bescherming Bevolking (BB). A nuclear bunker was built under the garden to safeguard BB’s regional commanders. After 1985, the villa was used by the IT company Wisdom and mortgage intermediary Wereldhypotheek.
