The Executive Board of INCAS3 consists of Scientific Director, Heinrich Wörtche, and Managing Director, John van Pol. Wörtche is responsible for the research strategy and the quality of the research. He is the contact person for the research community. Van Pol is responsible for day-to-day operations and valorization of the knowledge at INCAS3. He maintains contacts with the partners of INCAS3.

Wörtche and Van Pol firmly believe that there is considerable technological knowledge available at universities that never reaches industry or society and that could actually solve many technological challenges. So, INCAS³ is all about knowing the challenges, seeking the appropriate knowledge in the scientific community and enriching and/or developing that into applicable concepts and prototypes.

Scientific Director Heinrich Wörtche (1962) has always been interested in the development and application of advanced technologies. He has been involved for more than twenty years in the development of tools for physical research, training scientists, and organizing large-scale, international scientific research cooperation.Wörtche earned his Ph.D. in natural sciences from the Technical University of Darmstadt. He continued his career at the University of Münster, first as a postdoc researcher and then as a university lecturer.

In 2000 he joined the Nuclear Physics Accelerator Institute at the University of Groningen. Wörtche has also worked with leading research institutions in Germany, Canada, Switzerland, Japan, Sweden, and France.

Managing Director John van Pol (1968) devoted his professional life to working at the interface of research, education, and enterprise. He started at the research department of KPN, followed by various management positions within KPN and British Telecom, where he specialized in developing and marketing high tech products and services for the business market.

In 2003, Van Pol was appointed Dean of the School of Computer Science at Hanze University Groningen. In 2007 he wrote the business plan for the Hanze Institute of Technology, a new school focused on research and education in the field of sensor technology, and implemented the institute within a one years’ time frame after which he started INCAS³.

Van Pol studied physics at Eindhoven University of Technology and earned his doctorate in mathematics and natural sciences at the University of Groningen.
