PTRC Signs Agreements on Sensor Research, CCS Cooperation in The...
Today I attended a workshop on Future Internet Usage Areas. I received the invitation through Mr. Koopmans of Sensor Universe who pointed out that Smart Cities and Sensor Networks are seen as key application areas.
And indeed…the sessions I was in were all about the requirements for the Future Internet from a sensor (network) perspective. An interesting aspect there is that sensor technology is actually an enabling technology for different application fields, like environmental monitoring or healthcare. From a Future Internet perspective it is therefore important to look at the application fields.
The dominant application field that was identified are Smart Cities. A number of European initiatives were presented, like: Smart Santander, Oulu Urban Living Labs and Assen Sensor City. It is interesting to see these developments and good for us that a large community as the internet community considers sensor technology important for future development.
